Those entering Medina’s Interior Design Studio featuring JK Gift Shop will quickly discover that its gleeful ambiance of witty merchandise and shelves brimming with design resources will promote a positive energy that is contagious.
Prepare to have a blast in this sanctuary of the upbeat and uplifting shopping experience that will also upgrade your outlook on life. “All ages of customers come in,” said Julie McNabb, who tends to the business side of the family-owned store while her mother, Amy Douglass, and sister, Katie Heinz, share the designer duties. “Our customers become like our extended family.”
When relocating six years ago from just around the corner on Medina’s Historic Public Square to the present location on 207 South Court Street, the opportunity arose for the debut of JK Gift Store. As the sign on their store’s wall suggests, “Wish it…dream it…do it!”, the sisters’ vision to create a gift store that would bring something different, fun and lively for Medina Historic District shoppers garnered an enthusiastic thumbs-up from Douglass. “My sister Katie is my cohort in crime with her keen eye searching out the perfect merchandise when we visit markets in New York and Atlanta,” joked McNabb, adding that a recent vacation to Chicago found them still scouring the boutiques for “snippets” that could satisfy the tricky balance between great prices for unique products.
JK Gift Shop has a range of pieces described by McNabb as “gifts you want to give and gifts you’d love to receive”. Areas of the gift shop include a baby section, a fashion section featuring jewelry and scarves, a kitchen section, and a home décor area with afghans, pictures and frames. The ever-popular “laugh out loud” bar section is stocked with humorous items such as napkins and cocktail glasses, and there is a display of greeting cards that also tickle the funny bone.
